46th African Seniors Championships Abidjan - First day of competition: Morocco wins 2 of 7 gold medals – IRAOUI Soumiya retained her African title for the 5th times

The Moroccan team won two of the seven finals. Five-time African Champion Iraoui Soumiya retained her title in the -52kg category. Moroccan Hassan Doukkali defeated Tunisian Aleddine Ben Chalbi in the -73kg final after a closely contested bout between the two judokas.


In the -60kg category, Egypt won the gold medal. Samy Youssry defeated Angolan Leonardo Barros in the grand final.
In the -48kg category, Tunisian Bedioui Oumaima won her bout by ippon in the final against Algerian Kaddour Houaria.
The Angolans demonstrated their supremacy in the -66kg category. Pedro Edmilson defeated Senegalese Mboup Mouhamedou in the final and took first place on the podium.

Guinean Esteves Mariane, who won the bronze medal at the Grand Prix Upper Austria this year, cruised through the -57kg category without making a single mistake. She defeated Angolan Antonio Andreza to become the African champion.

South Africa also won on this first day. After a flawless performance, Martin Jasmine defeated Morocco's Taibi Chaimae in the -63kg final.
It should be noted that seven categories competed on this first day. For women (-48kg, -52kg, -57kg, and -63kg) and for men (-60kg, -66kg and -73kg) .
