Most of them already know each other, while others are making their debut and are just as determined to fight for a title. From Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Ivorian economic capital, Abidjan, will host the 46th edition of the African Senior Judo Championships. A true continental summit of the discipline, this prestigious event brings together 190 elite judokas—108 men and 82 women—from 24 African countries.
The official kickoff was given on Thursday, April 24th at the Grand Hotel by the President of the African Judo Union, Mr. Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko. Speaking at the event, he praised the commitment and unwavering support of the Ivorian authorities, particularly the Ministry of Sports, as well as that of the Ivorian Judo Federation and all the partners mobilized to ensure the success of this high-level sporting event. The event was graced by the presence of several members of the UAJ steering committee, including the Chief Director of Refereeing, Mr. Ababakar Ngom, the Chief Director of Education and Coaching, Mr. Raguib Faissal, and the Chief Sports Director, Mr. Alain Kingue, who, before conducting the draw, emphasized the rules and discipline at the competition venue.
The President of Cote d'Ivoire Judo, Mr. Seydou Dabonne, surrounded by his close collaborators, addressed a welcome to the African Judo Union. He expressed his gratitude for the mutual trust between the parties in granting this prestigious Championship to Cote d'Ivoire after many years. Mr. Seydou Dabonne emphasized that this event is a great celebration for the Ivorian people and for all of Africa.
