Coach Ekuta, Catherine Ewa graduated in an Olympic solidarity sponsored programme in conjunction with International Judo Federation (IJF), with the acronym of WISH (Women in Sports High performance pathway)

On 22nd of January 2024, Coach Ekuta, Catherine Ewa (OLY) graduated in an Olympic solidarity (IOC) sponsored programme in conjunction with International Judo Federation (IJF), with the acronym of WISH (Women in Sports High performance pathway), a twenty two (22) month - training that consisted of a one week's residential training in the University of Hertfordshire in UK, and an online training for the remaining duration.

The training is in line with the Olympic values of gender equality in sports and a great opportunity in creating a higher platform for female Coaches all over the world , training them to become Olympics Coaches.

Coach Ekuta, Catherine Ewa (OLY) Director and Head of Coaching department Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Akwa Ibom state, was recommended to represent the African continent by the Africa Judo Union (AJU) in the program and has successfully concluded the 22 months duration training.

As the world celebrates Coach Ekuta, who has once again added a feather to her crown, on the heels the one year Sports management and Diploma programme she undertook in Korea , 2015 to 2016, after getting an MSc. in Sports and Health Science in 2008 from the prestigious University of Exeter in the UK, it is hoped that Akwa Ibom and Nigeria will greatly tap her huge potentials to develop sports and mentor future Olympic record setters from this country.

It is instructive to note that Coach Catherine is a graduate of Fine and industrial arts University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State but ventured into professional coaching at the Nigerian Institute for Sports (NIS) Lagos in 1999.

Coach EKuta, Catherine is a great example of an outstanding Sports personality that has gone to great lengths to build a sporting career for her self. Despite the challenging situations surrounding her, she has become one of the best in sports participation, sports management and a voice that advocates for equality and respect in sports, in line with the Olympic values.

Congratulations to Coach Ekuta, Catherine Ewa (OLY). Nigerians in general and Akwa Ibomites in particular are proud of her recent achievements and wish her more successes as she keeps breaking bounds and creating records .
