OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 40TH AFRICAN JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 IN CAPE TOWN-HABIB SISSOKO: « JUDO A SOURCE OF VALUE AND AN AXIS TO CONSOLIDATE EXCHANGE »

The opening ceremony of the 40th African Judo Championships took place this afternoon in the Cape Town Univerty Hall in South Africa. The AJU President, Habib Sissoko proceed to the ceremony in the presence of the president of South African Judo federation, Tembani Hlasho and a representative of the mayoral committee of Cape Town, Dr Zaid Badroodien.

During his speech to mark the opening of this African Championships of Judo, Mr Sissoko exposed the values of judo. He said that its not only a sports fight between two persons but a source of values and a linear axis that aim to consolidate and reinforce a genuine mutual understanding between the persons and the peoples coming from different backgrounds as it was highlighted by Jigoro Kano, the founding father of Judo. He also invited the athletes to fight in a fairplay spirit while keeping committed to the great judo universal values that aim to promote mutual understanding, friendship and peace in the world.

For the president of the South African Judo Federation, hosting this event was important for his country, as it gave the opportunity to showcase our capacity to host international events and also provide to the S.A players homely platform to earn Olympic qualifying points for Tokyo 2020. Mr Tembani Hlasho invites all the athletes to discover the magnificent city of Cape Town during theirs stay.
