AFRICAN JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 IN CAPE TOWN-A FIRST DAY OF COMPETITION THAT OFFERS BEAUTIFUL SHOW

A first day of competition marked by the beautiful judo and the show during the session of preliminaries to start the morning at 10 am in the University hall of Cape Town and the fights that follow one another and in the six categories namely, -48Kg, -52Kg, -57Kg(W) and 60Kg, 66Kg (M). The Fights were of high level and worthy of an African Judo championships.

This continental event brought together 29 countries and 186 athletes in its 114 men and 72 women and a competition that dreamed of paramount importance for judokas less than a year away from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games. They are all conquering victory to accumulate a maximum of points to go for an Olympic qualification.

For this first day of competition, the organising country of these African Championships, South Africa won his first gold medal with Germany Whitebooi who beat the Algerian Hadjer Mecerem (-48Kg). En (- 52Kg) Tatiana Cesar from Guinee Bissau beat the Morocco competitor Soumaya Iraoui and Tunisia also won a gold medal in (-57 Kg). Ghofran Khelifi beats the Egyptian, Lamiaa Elzenan in the final. The category - 66Kg dominated by the Egyptian Mohamed Abdelmawgoud who won against the Morocco , Imad Bassau to win the gold medal.

A good crowd had made the trip to support their respective countries and team. A good atmosphere prevailed in the competition hall.
